The Cairn Homeowner Initiative

A public commitment to letting homeowners help shape how this company operates.

This is my commitment to running a company that never stops improving. Homeowners should have a say in how a remodeling company works, so questions, conversations, and honest feedback all shape Cairn Builders one change at a time. Some ideas will become policy and some won't, but every thoughtful one gets real consideration — and when something changes because of feedback, I'll write it down here.

This page is a living document. Cairn Builders is built on continual improvement. As I gain experience, listen to homeowners, complete projects, and improve my processes, this page will continue to evolve.

Current questions

These are the questions I'm asking homeowners right now — in conversations, on social media, and on real projects. They're open discussions, not settled policies. Answers aren't published here; what gets published is anything that changes because of them.

  • What's one thing a contractor did that made you think, “I wish every contractor did that”?
  • Would you rather receive an itemized estimate or a lump-sum estimate?
  • How often would you like project updates during a remodel?
  • If unexpected hidden damage is discovered, how would you prefer that conversation to happen?
  • Would you rather approve every decision, or trust your contractor's judgment within agreed-upon limits?

If you have an answer — or a question you think I should be asking — I'd like to hear it.

Adopted improvements

Anything that changes because a homeowner spoke up gets recorded here: what changed, why it changed, and when it became part of how I work. Nothing listed yet — the first entry will appear the moment feedback changes something.

Future ideas

Not every good idea should become policy right away. Some need more discussion, more projects behind them, or more time before I'm willing to commit. Ideas I'm still thinking through will be kept here in the open.

Initiative updates

Bigger news about the initiative itself lives here — important discussions, milestones, new policies, and any real change in direction, each one dated so the history stays visible.
